I'm guessing that you recently may have installed OS X 10.12 [Sierra}. If that's the case, it would be a good idea to check the Canon site to see if there is a more recent driver for your model than what you currently have, or whether there are similar reports in their support Community. There have been numerous reports of a similar nature with the last several rapid-fire editions of OS X.

- It's entirely possible for some programs to have their print jobs handled properly while those from other programs are not, even though the printer & diver are identical [i.e., same Mac]. Different programs call for varying levels of what the printer has to offer, &
- The program (Word or otherwise) has nothing to do with the printed output. The program simply contacts the OS to notify it of a need to have printing done & hands the job off to be printed, &
- The Quick Preview in the Print dialog is rendered by the OS in conjunction with the printer. If the printer produces hard copy that deviates from the preview, the printer or the driver is failing to deliver.
In the meanwhile, if you have pressing needs, use the PDF button in the Print dialog to view the PDF in Preview, then print from there.

Print on both sides of the paper (duplex printing)
The easiest way to produce double-sided publications is to print them on a printer that supports duplex printing. You can usually learn whether your printer supports duplex printing either by looking at the information that was included with the printer or by looking at the printer's properties. Some printers offer the option of automatically printing on both sides of a sheet of paper (automatic duplex printing). Other printers provide instructions so that you can manually reinsert pages to print the second side (manual duplex printing). Some printers do not offer duplex printing at all.
Tip: If your printer supports duplex printing and you are having trouble printing duplex, on the Copies & Pages pop-up menu, click Layout. Then, on the Two-Sided pop-up menu, make sure that Off is not selected.
